Activities
Geomorfolab uses geographical analysis techniques for the study and enhancement of the territory and its resources, in support of local development. In particular, it employs GIS and Open Source Web-GIS software for analysis and the creation of digital cartography as a basis for proper land management and spatial planning.
The laboratory is responsible for researching, assembling, converting, and distributing digital cartography of the Liguria Region, based on the "Liguria in Rete" Agreement, as well as any Open cartography from other sources, for students and faculty of the Department. The laboratory also distributes digital or scanned cartography from the Architecture Library's collection.
The laboratory carries out research support and teaching activities through the acquisition, analysis, and creation of digital cartography, primarily for students and faculty of the Department, but often in collaboration with other departments. Regarding research support, the laboratory participates in national and international research projects and collaborates through agreements with various local stakeholders.
Learning
Regarding teaching activities, the laboratory provides support for Bachelor's and Master's degree theses, primarily for Architecture and Landscape Architecture students, but occasionally also for Geography and Geology students and for PhD dissertations. The laboratory also hosts Internships on various topics, always aimed at learning GIS tools. Basic or ad hoc Seminars on Open Source GIS software are organized upon specific request, producing educational materials that are released with an Open license on their website.
The laboratory also provides support to faculty in organizing Workshops and Courses, both in terms of research and preparation of cartographic materials, use of GIS tools, and field surveys with GPS equipment. It also participates in Pathways for Transversal Skills and Orientation (PCTO, formerly School-Work Alternation Projects) with local schools.
The Laboratory also provides specific educational materials, made freely available.
