Lab

DigitaLab is the digital fabrication laboratory of the Department of Architecture and Design at the University of Genoa. This space is dedicated to supporting students, faculty, and researchers in creating prototypes and models using both digital technologies and traditional methods. The laboratory specializes in producing architectural models, urban planning models, and exhibition setups for events, combining traditional modelmaking with the latest prototyping techniques.

Access and booking

Access to DigitaLab is free during opening hours, but use of the equipment is subject to passing the Safety Course for access to the Department's Laboratories.

Please note that to request the processing described in the guides (Laser Cutting, 3D Printing, CNC), a prior reservation is mandatory. This is necessary to ensure efficient organization of the laboratory and to guarantee that resources are available at the time of use.

Mission

DigitaLab aims to address the challenges of contemporary design practice through an integrated approach that combines technology and craftsmanship. We believe that technical skill alone is not sufficient; for this reason, we are committed to providing comprehensive support that includes feasibility checks, optimization of time and costs, and access to a wide range of equipment.

Technical support and training

Our staff is available to provide technical assistance and training on machine usage, ensuring users can make the most of all the laboratory's resources.

Collaborative environment

DigitaLab is a collaborative environment where students, faculty, and professionals can share ideas and work together on various types of projects. The laboratory provides equipped spaces with workstations, a teaching area with video projection, and machinery for processing wood and plastic materials.

During the 2023 National SID assembly SID (società Italiana di Design) 2023 di Pescara, awards were given to the best research presented in the "Ideas" session, dedicated to researchers under 40.
